The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates for a 12-month faculty position assistant/associate or professor rank in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University.

Mercy University is seeking candidates for a full-time, open rank faculty position in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program.

This is an opportunity to join the accredited Occupational Therapy Program located on the Westchester NY campus. The OT Program is part of the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 5 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, nursing, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) and undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, nursing, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology.  We have a strong focus on interprofessional education as well as local and global community service.

The Doctoral Capstone Coordinator (DCC) is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, monitoring, and assessing the Doctoral Capstone program for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program. Primary duties include establishing agreements with experiential sites, ensuring that the accreditation standards related to the doctoral capstone experience and project are met, and overseeing didactic courses related to the capstone project.

All faculty are responsible for curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation in both didactic and clinical components of the program, student advising, developing collaborative opportunities with community partners, and contributing to interprofessional education within the School and University. Faculty play a prominent role in the program’s ongoing self-study process.

This position includes an expectation of serving on University, School and Program committees and participating in scholarly activities.  

Candidates must have a commitment to working in a multicultural setting. Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and develops quality Doctoral Capstone Experiential sites, including assessment of experiential mentor qualifications.
  • Serves as a liaison between experiential mentors and Wingate University.
  • Coordinates orientation and support for experiential mentors and capstone students.
  • Conducts experiential site visits, phone calls, and/or email exchanges with experiential sites and students as indicated.
  • Maintains student and experiential site records and documentation according to program policy.
  • Assigns and supports faculty mentors.
  • Collaborates with experiential mentors and faculty mentors to assess student learning and performance.
  • Mediates interpersonal and professional conflicts between the student and the experiential mentor/site.
  • Develops and updates the Doctoral Capstone Manual including capstone policies and procedures for the Wingate University OTD program.
  • Oversees the capstone experiential and project development from planning through execution and dissemination.
  • Ensures compliance with ACOTE standards related to the capstone experiential and project, and assists in program accreditation/reaccreditation activities.
  • Assists with student recruitment and the admissions process.
  • Mentors and advises students.
  • Develops and serves as primary instructor for didactic courses related to capstone experiential and project development and other courses within areas of expertise as assigned.
  • Understands and supports the OTD program’s mission, vision, philosophy, and curriculum design.
  • Projects a positive and professional image when representing Wingate University.
  • Engages in scholarship and service activities as time allows (managing the Doctoral Capstone program and responsibilities takes priority).
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the PD.

Required Skills & Experience:

 

  • Be licensed or have the ability to obtain licensure as an occupational therapist in New York.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of clinical practice as an occupational therapist.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (more is preferred).
  • Have an existing line of research with evidence of dissemination at a State or National level.
  • Show expertise in developing, conducting, and overseeing research and/or doctoral capstone projects.
  • Be willing to travel to experiential sites, seminars, and conferences.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

 

Education Requirements:

  • Have earned an entry-level occupational therapy degree and must possess an earned doctorate in occupational therapy or a related area (OTD, PhD, EdD, DSc, etc.) from a regionally accredited institution.

 

Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies
