Position Summary

The Assistant Director of the Professional Advising and Coaching Team (P.A.C.T.) plays a vital role in supporting University Advisement initiatives aligned with the University's Strategic Plan. The assistant director role reinforces the advising mission and commitment to offer structured advising, actionable mentorship, proactive intervention, and a demonstrated standard of care to all Mercy students. This position collaborates with the Associate Director of University Advisement to ensure the effective delivery of services and resources to a diverse student population.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Management

  • Assist the Associate Director with delegated team tasks and strategic initiatives
  • Oversee daily operations of the PACT office, ensuring efficient workflow and service delivery
  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of PACT mentors, providing guidance and professional development opportunities
  • Coordinate scheduling, resource allocation, and operational procedures to maintain high-quality service standards

Student Advisement & Support

  • Provide comprehensive academic advisement to an assigned caseload of approximately 200 students
  • Guide students in course selection, academic planning, and degree progression
  • Monitor student progress and intervene proactively to address academic challenges
  • Advocate for student success by connecting students with appropriate campus resources and support services

Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Collaborate with various university departments to identify and provide comprehensive resources for students
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across campus to enhance student support networks
  • Participate in university-wide initiatives that promote student retention and success

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and advocacy
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff
  • Proficiency with student information systems and standard office technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field
  • Previous experience in academic advisement or student support services
  • Experience supervising student staff or peer mentors
  • Knowledge of university policies, procedures, and academic programs
