Job Summary:

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy University is seeking candidates for a full time Clinical Assistant Professor in Social Work for its undergraduate Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program. This position will support the delivery of the BSW program and contribute to the continued growth of the Social Work program at Mercy University. The Social Work program is also in the process of developing a Master of Social Work (MSW) program, and the successful candidate will contribute to program development, curriculum planning, and related initiatives as the program expands.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Social Work from an accredited institution and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited program. Candidates must possess current licensure in social work and have at least two years of professional social work practice experience.

Candidates should demonstrate experience teaching at the undergraduate level and a commitment to teaching excellence. Familiarity with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) standards and program assessment processes is preferred. Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate engagement in the field through professional development, publications, research, or grant activity related to social work or closely related disciplines.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Teaching, service, field education coordination, and maintaining currency in the field are primary responsibilities for this multiple year contract faculty position. The Assistant or Associate Professor will teach in the Social Work program and serve as the Clinical Coordinator for Field Education for the BSW program and the developing MSW program.

Core faculty are expected to teach nine months per year and four courses per semester. Courses may include social work practice, policy, research, human behavior in the social environment, and field seminar courses. Instruction may occur in person on the Dobbs Ferry and Bronx campuses, and through distance learning technology. Teaching assignments are determined by the Department Head.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience coordinating or supporting field education in a CSWE-accredited social work program.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with community agencies and organizations.
  • Experience with curriculum development and program assessment aligned with CSWE standards.
  • Engagement in scholarship, including publications, presentations, or grant-related work.
  • Experience teaching in multiple modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring, particularly for diverse and first-generation student populations.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are strongly preferred.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Teach undergraduate and, as appropriate, graduate courses in the Social Work program.
  • Coordinate the BSW and MSW field education programs, including student placement in approved field agencies.
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships that support student field placements.
  • Collaborate with field supervisors to support student learning and professional development in field settings.
  • Monitor student progress in field placements and conduct site visits and evaluations as needed.
  • Ensure field education policies and practices align with CSWE standards and program assessment requirements.
  • Participate in departmental, school, and university service activities, including committees and program initiatives.
  • Maintain currency in the field of social work through professional development, scholarship, research, or other professional engagement.

Education Requirements:

  • PhD in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure in Social Work (e.g., LCSW or LMSW) in New York State or eligibility for licensure in New York State.

Additional Information:

This position offers a collaborative academic environment with opportunities for innovation, interdisciplinary engagement, and professional growth. As a full-time core faculty member, the selected candidate may not hold concurrent full-time employment at another institution.
