Job Summary:
Mercy University is seeking a part-time laboratory manager to work at the Dobbs Ferry campus. The successful candidate will assist the full-time faculty in supporting laboratory sections for undergraduate clinical chemistry, hematology, and immunohematology labs. Primary work responsibilities include: lab safety and compliance; preparing for, setting up, cleaning, and turning over of clinical chemistry, hematology, and immunohematology labs in coordination with course instructors; tracking and restocking supplies; maintaining inventories and equipment; assisting in waste disposal; and general upkeep of the teaching laboratories.

Laboratory Preparation and Support
• Prepare laboratory materials, reagents, specimens, and media for instructional laboratories in accordance with established protocols
• Set up and break down laboratory stations for student laboratory sessions
• Ensure all equipment and materials are available, functional, and properly labeled prior to scheduled labs
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of teaching laboratories
Equipment and Materials Management
• Operate, maintain, and perform routine checks on laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, centrifuges, incubators, and analyzers)
• Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs or service as needed
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents; notify program director when reordering is required
• Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating laboratory supplies according to program guidelines
Safety and Compliance
• Adhere to and enforce laboratory safety policies, including chemical hygiene, biosafety, and bloodborne pathogen standards
• Properly handle, store, and dispose of chemical and biohazardous materials
• Maintain safety documentation such as SDS files, equipment logs, and cleaning schedules
• Assist with laboratory inspections and accreditation readiness activities
Instructional and Student Support
• Support faculty during student laboratory sessions
• Provide guidance to students on proper laboratory techniques and safe practices under faculty supervision
• Reinforce laboratory rules, procedures, and professional conduct expectations
• Monitor laboratory activities to promote a safe and effective learning environment
Communication and Collaboration
• Assist with updating laboratory manuals, protocols, and instructional materials as directed
· Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students regarding laboratory needs and schedules
· Collaborate with program leadership to support course objectives and laboratory operations
· Respond professionally to inquiries and requests related to laboratory activities
Other Duties
· Participate in department meetings or training sessions as required
· Assist with special projects related to laboratory operations or program improvement
· Perform other duties as assigned to support the CLS program
Required Skills & Experience:
· Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques (pipetting, specimen handling, centrifugation, reagent preparation)
· Ability to prepare, label, store, and dispose of reagents and materials according to safety protocols
· Experience with routine laboratory equipment (including clinical equipment such as hematology, coagulation, chemistry, and microbiology analyzers)
· Ability to set up, break down, and maintain teaching laboratory stations
· Must know how to set up labs for POCT testing used in the clinical laboratory
Education Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science
· Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
· MLT or MLS certification (ASCP or equivalent)
Physical/Other Requirements:
• Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies
