Job Summary:

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy College invites applications for an Open Rank Visiting Professor position in our Mental Health Counseling Program. This faculty member will join our vibrant, diverse, Department of Counseling, which offers master's degrees in both Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. This is primarily an in-person position with opportunities to teach select courses online. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, commitment to diversity and social justice, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to graduate counseling education.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Teaching & Advising

  • Teach a 3:4 load of graduate-level counseling courses each academic year in the counseling programs
  • Provide comprehensive advising and mentoring to graduate students in the counseling programs
  • Grade comprehensive examinations and participate in student assessment activities Program Development & Administration
  • Contribute to the program's academic and programmatic activities, including student orientation, admissions processes, and field experience coordination
  • Serve on academic program committees and support curriculum development
  • Participate in program assessment and CACREP accreditation activities Service & Leadership
  • Provide service at the program, school, and university levels
  • Engage in professional service at community, state and national levels, particularly initiatives that promote equity and access to the counseling field and mental health services across the lifespan
  • Actively support a just, safe, and inclusive campus environment by committing to improving systems that support minoritized and historically marginalized people, reduce bias, and create and sustain equity

Preferred Skills:

  • Evidence of success in teaching graduate-level courses, program development, and student mentoring
  • Experience with instructional technology applications and distance delivery methods for graduate education
  • Knowledge of CACREP accreditation standards and New York State licensure regulations
  • Proficiency with Blackboard or equivalent Learning Management Systems
  • Minimum three years of professional experience in mental health counseling
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to counseling students or professionals
  • Scholarly productivity demonstrated through publications, research, and/or grant activity in counseling
  • Track record of service promoting equity and access in counseling and mental health

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Counselor Education and Supervision or ABD status with completion expected by Fall 2026
  • Licensed as a mental health counselor (LMHC) or eligible for licensure as a mental health counselor in New York State
  • Commitment to diversity, social justice, and excellence in graduate preparation
  • Competence in clinical practice and ability to make meaningful contributions to graduate-level clinical and assessment courses
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students across the college and university
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate level

 

Education Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Counselor Education and Supervision
  • ABD candidates will be considered if dissertation completion is expected by Fall 2026

interdisciplinary engagement, and professional growth. As a full-time core faculty member, the selected candidate may not hold concurrent full-time employment at another institution.
