The Music Production & Record Arts Program in the Communications & The Arts Department of the School of Liberal Arts at Mercy University seeks a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Music Production instructor. This position offers opportunities to teach Electronic Music Production I, Electronic Music Production II, Synthesis, Electronic Music Performance, Game Music, and MAX/MSP, as well as other courses commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications in those areas, up to a maximum of three sections per semester.

Instructors may also be asked to assist with program assessment and development and to attend the occasional program, department, or school meeting.

We welcome applications from candidates with strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment. A master’s degree (M. Mus., M.A., M.S., MFA) in Music Production, Music Technology, Studio Composition, or related discipline is required. Candidates with a DMA or Ph.D. in Music, with a record of professional accomplishments in Music Production, will also receive consideration.

Schedule & Location:
The course sections for this position are offered on Monday mornings and afternoons, exclusively at our Dobbs Ferry campus.

Required Educational Credentials:

  • A master’s (M. Mus., M.A., M.S., MFA, etc.) or doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Music Production, Music Technology, Studio Composition, or related discipline. A DMA or Ph.D in Music, with a record of professional accomplishments in Music Production will also receive consideration.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Requires a commitment to excellent and inclusive teaching, working with a diverse population of undergraduate students.
  • Experience teaching Electronic Music Production lecture and lab courses to undergraduate students is strongly preferred.
  • Professional-level fluency with Ableton Live and a good working knowledge of Pro Tools are required. Experience with MAX/MSP and Native Instruments Komplete is a plus.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly with BlackBoard and/or BlackBoard Ultra, as well as teleconferencing software, particularly Zoom and BlackBoard Collaborate, strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong computer and audio engineering skills required.

Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move, or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies.
