Mercy University's Center for STEM Education is seeking passionate and energetic Teaching Assistants to join our Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers Summer Program, a transformative initiative designed to empower middle school students through hands-on exploration of cutting-edge technologies.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our dedicated instructors, guiding and mentoring students as they delve into the exciting realms of 3D Printing, Augmented Reality, Design Thinking, and Social Entrepreneurship. This unique program aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love for STEM disciplines among our young participants.
Your role will be multifaceted and rewarding. You will assist with STEM instruction and classroom activities, ensuring a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Additionally, you will supervise students during group sessions, lunch, and recreational activities, creating a safe and supportive atmosphere for their growth and development.
Collaborating with Verizon mentors, you will play a crucial role in nurturing students' curiosity, encouraging them to ask questions, and fostering a sense of wonder and exploration. Your ability to manage student behavior and provide guidance will be invaluable in shaping their educational journey.
Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to the planning and execution of fun activities during recreational time, ensuring that our students have a well-rounded and enjoyable experience.
To excel in this role, you should possess a genuine interest in STEM and youth programming, coupled with excellent communication and teamwork skills. Experience working with youth or in an educational setting is preferred, but not required. We value enthusiasm, creativity, and a commitment to making a lasting impact on the lives of our students.
