Job Summary:

The Simulation Lab Assistant provides crucial operational, technical, and administrative support to
the Simulation Center and the Director of Simulation. This role ensures the smooth daily operation
of the nursing simulation labs, prepares high-fidelity and low-fidelity environments for student
experiences, manages specialized inventory, and assists faculty and students during active
simulation scenarios, skill labs, and objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs).

Operations & Lab Preparation

  • Scenario Setup & Teardown: Physically prepare simulation rooms, task trainers, and high-fidelity
    mannequins according to specific course objectives and faculty blueprints (e.g., setting up
    moulage, IV lines, medications, and clinical props). Clean and reset the rooms efficiently between
    sessions.
  • Technology Readiness: Power up, test, and troubleshoot simulators, audio-visual recording systems
    (such as Zoom Education, CAE, or Laerdal systems), and electronic health record (EHR) software
    prior to student arrival.
  • Environment Realism: Maintain an authentic clinical environment, ensuring that patient care bays
    look identical to a live hospital or outpatient setting.

Inventory, Procurement, & Maintenance

  • Stock Management: Track consumable clinical supplies (such as syringes, PPE, gauze, and IV
    tubing), noting when items run low and preparing orders for approval.
  • Vendor Coordination: Assist in organizing quotes and documentation for medical equipment and
    simulator maintenance contracts (working with vendors such as McKesson, Medline, or MedShipment).
  • Equipment Care: Perform routine preventative maintenance, cleaning, and proper storage of
    high-fidelity mannequins and delicate task trainers to maximize their lifespan.

Instructional & Faculty Support

  • In-Sim Assistance: Serve as a standardized patient, embedded participant (voice of the patient),
    or operate the simulator control software during active mock codes or clinical scenarios.
  • Student Safety & Guidance: Monitor students for safe equipment usage in the lab during open lab
    hours or independent practice sessions.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience specifically within a healthcare simulation lab.
  • Familiarity with healthcare terminology, basic medical supplies, and standard patient safety
    protocols.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or in a healthcare, technology, or administrative field (or equivalent
    combination of education and clinical environment experience).
