Position Summary:

The Transfer Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, and enrollment of transfer students to Mercy University. This position involves representing the institution to prospective students, parents, community college counselors, and other stakeholders through various recruitment initiatives and personalized communication. The counselor will play a critical role in managing the transfer admissions process, from outreach through enrollment, ensuring a smooth transition for transfer applicants.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective transfer students throughout the admissions process
  • Plan and attend recruitment events, including transfer fairs, community college visits, information sessions, virtual information sessions, academic major presentations, etc.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community college advisors and other external stakeholders from community colleges within the Tri-State area, such as Queensborough CC, Guttman CC, BMCC, LaGuardia CC, Kingsborough CC, and Nassau CC, Long Island Business Institute
  • Review and evaluate transfer applications and transcripts to determine admission eligibility and transfer credit evaluation
  • Assist in the development and implementation of transfer articulation agreements with community colleges
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions (in person, phone, or virtual) to guide transfer students through the application and enrollment process
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as academic advising, registrar, financial aid, and orientation to support transfer student success
  • Contribute to communication campaigns targeted at transfer populations (email, phone, text, CRM)
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to recruitment activities and admissions outcomes
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and stay current with trends in transfer admissions, such as NYSTAA
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 1–3 years of experience in admissions, advising, or related student services
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with transfer student populations
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Slate, Banner)
