Assistant Dean- School of Business

The Assistant Dean of the School of Business serves as the senior administrator responsible for business and operational leadership within the School, reporting directly to the Dean. This role provides leadership for all academic and non-academic operations and works closely with the Office of the Provost to support programs, students, and faculty in administrative and fiscal matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership and Planning
    Collaborate with the Dean to lead the execution of the School of Business Strategic Plan in alignment with the University’s Mercy 2030 Strategic Plan

The Assistant Dean will drive initiatives across these four strategic pillars of the plan:

  • Innovation in curriculum
  • Fundraising
  • Workforce development
  • Global engagement

Academic Operations and Faculty Support

  • Partner with Deans, Chairs, and Program Directors to assign courses and support faculty development (full-time and adjunct)
  • Ensure quality instruction by maintaining regular communication with adjunct faculty and supporting course scheduling
  • Lead onboarding and orientation for new adjunct and full-time faculty, including training in university systems and procedures
  • Coordinate faculty mentorship programs and oversee adjunct classroom observations and assessment data collection
  • Manage adjunct faculty contracts and payment processing through Banner (EPAFs)
  • Support the faculty evaluation process and facilitate regular meetings for new faculty

Graduate Student Support and Internship Coordination

  • Provide academic advising and internship preparation support for graduate students in collaboration with Program Directors and Career Services
  • Assist with practicum readiness reviews and internship documentation, including resume guidance, affiliation agreements, and interview preparation

Compliance, Accreditation, and Reporting

  • Support documentation and reporting for state (e.g., NYSED), federal (e.g., SARA), and accreditation requirements
  • Provide program data for assessment and federal/state reporting needs
  • Assist in implementing curricular and programmatic changes with the Dean and Associate Provost

Administrative Leadership and Student Services

  • Manage daily operations of the School, ensuring staff productivity, accuracy, and quality assurance
  • Address student concerns in collaboration with Chairs and Program Directors, ensuring resolution at the appropriate level
  • Oversee academic integrity reporting and internal systems for violations such as plagiarism

Admissions and Enrollment Support

  • Participate in admissions events and orientation sessions
  • Review student applications as needed, in coordination with Program Directors and Graduate Admissions
  • Represent the School at graduate recruitment events (in-person and virtual)

Partnerships, Fundraising, and Alumni Engagement

  • Coordinate fundraising initiatives in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support development of strategic partnerships aligned with the School’s mission, including expanding program access and creating career advancement opportunities
  • Lead a comprehensive alumni engagement initiative

Additional Duties

  • Serve on School committees and represent the School in interdepartmental meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in higher education administration, business, public policy, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
• Minimum of 4–7 years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in higher education or a similarly complex organization

Skills and Competencies
• Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to foster collaboration across diverse teams
• Proven discretion and professionalism in handling confidential matters
• Effective leadership with a track record of developing and supporting high-performing teams
• Proficiency in project management tools and techniques

Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with higher education governance, policies, and culture
• Experience working closely with executive leadership in an academic setting

Working Conditions
• Full-time position; may require occasional evening and weekend hours
• Availability for university-related travel as needed
