Job Summary:

The Assistant Dean of the School of Business serves as the senior administrator responsible for business and operational leadership within the school, reporting directly to the Dean. This role provides operational leadership with a primary focus on implementation, strengthening the delivery of the School of Business's academic programs, ensuring a transformational student experience that leads to gainful employment, and supporting school of business activities in the communities that Mercy University serves and across the campuses where the school offers courses, including Dobbs Ferry, the Bronx, Manhattan and Online. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the Dean, faculty, staff, and students to enhance academic experience, operational efficiency, and visibility across campuses, while supporting the broader mission of the School of Business across all locations.

 

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Campus Operations and Administrative Leadership

  • Serve as the primary administrative leader at the school, ensuring alignment between campus operations and the school’s priorities and supporting the implementation of the School of Business Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee the daily operations of School of Business offices, ensuring staff productivity, service excellence, and efficient administrative processes.
  • Address student issues and concerns in collaboration with Chairs and Program Directors.
  • Maintain academic integrity processes and ensure accurate reporting and documentation.

Academic Operations and Faculty Support

  • Partner with Deans, Chairs, and Program Directors to coordinate course assignments and faculty support, ensuring robust program delivery across campuses.
  • Ensure quality instruction through regular communication and support for adjunct and full-time faculty teaching.
  • Lead onboarding and orientation for new faculty, including training in university systems and procedures.
  • Manage adjunct faculty contracts, classroom observations, and instructional quality.
  • Coordinate faculty mentorship and professional development.

Student Experience and Graduate Support

  • Serve as a visible leader and advocate for students, fostering engagement, inclusion, and academic success.
  • Provide student advising and internship preparation support in collaboration with Program Directors and Career Services.
  • Support practicum and internship readiness, including resume preparation, interview coaching, and partnership outreach.
  • Work closely with administrative staff to ensure a responsive, student-centered environment.

Enrollment, Outreach, and Alumni Engagement

  • Partner with Admissions to support recruitment and retention efforts, including participation in open houses, orientation, and community events, strengthening the school’s connection to the business community, developing partnerships that enhance student learning and career opportunities.
  • Represent the School at graduate recruitment events and lead outreach efforts to prospective students and partners.
  • Collaborate with University Advancement and Alumni Relations to build strong alumni and corporate engagement in Mercy’ markets.
  • Support campus-based fundraising and partnership initiatives aligned with the School’s mission and regional opportunities.

Compliance, Accreditation, and Reporting

  • Support documentation and reporting for accreditation, assessment, and regulatory compliance as required.
  • Contribute data and reports related to programs and activities

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4–7 years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in higher education or a similarly complex organization.
  • Experience in multi-campus administration or urban higher education settings preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build community among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in program or campus management, partnership development, and student engagement.
  • Proficiency in project management and data-driven decision-making.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position is located on the Dobbs Ferry and Manhattan Campuses, with occasional travel to other Mercy University campuses.
  • Require occasional evening and weekend hours for events and recruitment activities.
