Position Summary


The Arthur O. Eve, Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) seeks a highly motivated, energetic, and self-directed professional to serve as a HEOP Recruiter / Counselor. This position plays a critical role in advancing the mission of HEOP by leading recruitment efforts for prospective students while also providing comprehensive academic and personal counseling to an assigned caseload of current HEOP participants. The Recruiter / Counselor serves as a primary ambassador for the program, fostering relationships that support student access, retention, and degree completion.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for HEOP recruitment initiatives, with a focus on identifying, engaging, and enrolling eligible prospective students.

 

  • Plan and execute recruitment activities, including high school visits, college fairs, information sessions, and community outreach events.

 

  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with high school counselors, educators, and community-based organizations to build and sustain referral pipelines.

 

  • Deliver presentations to prospective students, families, counselors, advisors, and partner organizations.

 

  • Manage recruitment inquiries and guide prospective students through the admissions and enrollment process, ensuring timely and effective follow-up.

 

  • Maintain a caseload of enrolled HEOP students and provide holistic academic, personal, and developmental advising.

 

  • Support students in navigating academic requirements, institutional policies, and available campus resources to promote persistence and timely degree completion.

 

  • Monitor student progress, document advising interactions, and collaborate with HEOP staff and campus partners to address student needs.

 

  • Represent HEOP in a professional and positive manner to internal and external stakeholders.

 

  • Utilize institutional systems and software including Banner, COMPASS, ARGOS, SLATE, Xtender, Degree Works, and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

 

  • Work occasionally on evenings and Saturdays as required.

 

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, education, or a related discipline, or comparable relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet recruitment and advising goals.
  • Commitment to educational access, equity, and student success.

 

Travel Requirements

 

  • Travel is required approximately 50% of the time to support recruitment and outreach activities.
