The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Student Worker Position

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) of Mercy University is seeking a motivated and adaptable student assistant to support the Center’s administrative operations, technology needs, faculty development initiatives and programming. This position provides an opportunity for a student to gain meaningful experience in higher education while contributing to the CTL’s mission of advancing teaching excellence, innovation, faculty development, and student success at Mercy University.

The CTL Student Worker will work closely with CTL leadership and staff to help create a welcoming, responsive, and engaging environment for faculty. The student assistant will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Center while also supporting faculty development initiatives and projects designed to strengthen teaching and learning, enhance the faculty experience, and ultimately contribute to student success and retention.

Responsibilities may include:
• Provide administrative and operational support to the CTL, including preparing documents, organizing materials, maintaining electronic and physical resources, and assisting with general office needs.
• Support the planning, coordination, and execution of CTL workshops, faculty development programs, events, and other initiatives.
• Assist with technology setup and support for CTL programs, meetings, workshops, and events, including presentation technology, virtual meeting platforms, and other instructional technologies.
• Assist with the development, organization, and distribution of faculty development resources, materials, and communications.
• Support CTL initiatives focused on teaching excellence, innovative pedagogy, instructional technology, artificial intelligence, and other emerging areas that influence higher education and student learning.
• Assist with projects designed to create a welcoming, accessible, and engaging environment within the CTL for faculty across the University.
• Contribute ideas and assist with projects that enhance the CTL’s services, resources, programming, and overall faculty experience.
• Support the development and implementation of systems and processes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of CTL operations and programming.
• Assist with gathering feedback, organizing information, and supporting basic data collection related to CTL programs, faculty engagement, and professional development initiatives.
• Help prepare materials, presentations, communications, and other resources that support CTL initiatives and faculty engagement.
• Provide support to CTL leadership and staff on special projects and initiatives that advance the Center’s goals.

Qualifications:
• Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work comfortably with technology and learn new digital tools, platforms, and systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Blackboard, and other digital platforms is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, initiative, professionalism, and discretion.
• Creative, curious, and willing to learn new technologies, systems, and processes.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a small team.
• A welcoming, service-oriented attitude and an interest in supporting faculty and contributing to the broader Mercy University community.

What the Student Worker Will Gain:
Through this position, the student will gain meaningful experience in higher education administration, faculty development, technology support, event and program coordination, project management, and organizational development. The student will have the opportunity to work closely with higher education leaders, university faculty and staff while developing transferable professional skills that will support their future career.

Most importantly, this student will gain firsthand insight into the important connection between faculty development, teaching excellence, and student success. Through their work with the CTL, the student assistant will see how supporting faculty and strengthening the learning environment can contribute to student engagement, persistence, and retention.
