Job Summary:
The Accessibility Specialist is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Office of ACCESSibility. Accommodation provisions is the primary responsibility of the Accessibility Services office as a function of the prescribed legal mandates of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and its 2008 Amendments.


The Accessibility Specialist will ensure that accommodations are delivered thoroughly, effectively, and efficiently. This will be achieved by building connections with faculty, staff, and information technology professionals, supporting learning inside and outside the classroom. They will offer support to graduate and undergraduate students who need accommodations at all Mercy University campuses (Westchester, Bronx, Manhattan, and Online). They will also assist the Director in supporting the diverse academic and disability-related needs of the students registered with The Office of ACCESSibility.


This position is based out of the Westchester campus; however, travel to other campus locations is expected.

  • Manage the Accessibility email inbox and voicemail system.
  • Process new requests for accommodations in an efficient manner, including requests ADA, Title IX, or religious-based accommodations.
  • Maintain database and case notes via the online case management system.
  • Review documentation to determine eligibility for accessibility services and accommodations while also providing direct services to students.
  • Meet with students who disclose a disability and advise regarding services available through The Office of ACCESSibility.
  • Collaborate with faculty to implement practices to ensure students are receiving accommodations that are reasonable and appropriate.
  • Process requests for exams to be proctored through the Office of ACCESSibility.
  • Hire exam proctors as needed.
  • Manage inventory and requests to borrow assistive technology.
  • Act as the point of contact for Delta Alpha Pi, International Honor Society.
  • Manage social media accounts for the Office of ACCESSibility.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary education setting.
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic assessments including medical, psychological, and psychoeducational
