Job Summary:
The ADA Coordinator at Mercy University plays a vital role in advancing access, equity, and academic success for students with disabilities. This involves coordinating efforts to make programs, services, and facilities accessible to individuals with disabilities. The role typically includes managing requests for academic adjustments, auxiliary aids, and reasonable accommodations, developing and implementing policies, and providing training to faculty and staff across all campus locations. The ADA Coordinator will work closely with students graduate and undergraduate, faculty, and staff to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Fair Housing Act, and relevant laws and University policies, and to ensure Mercy University’s commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and student success.


This position is based out of the Westchester campus; however, travel to other campus locations as needed is expected.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the administrative workflow for student accommodation requests. Respond to inquiries via the department’s accessibility inbox
  • Assist students in registering for reasonable academic and housing accommodations by guiding them through the application process and reviewing supporting documentation through intake assessments and ongoing case management
  • Maintain confidential student records in compliance with FERPA and ADA via online platform Accommodate
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and staff to ensure effective implementation of accommodations, auxiliary aids and academic adjustments
  • Advise faculty on inclusive instructional practices and ADA/504 requirements including how to identify and address accessibility barriers. Assist in resolving accommodation-related concerns
  • Support students in using assistive technologies such as screen readers, speech-to-text tools, and alternative formats
  • Assist with the provision of academic support services, including notetaking, scribes, interpreters, testing services and test proctor’s schedule
  • Conduct or oversee assessments of facilities, programs, and services to identify and address accessibility barriers
  • Participate in staff and faculty training, workshops, orientation events, and tabling activities to ensure effective ADA/504 implementation and promote the Office of Accessibility’s services and mission
  • Contribute to the development of office resources, forms, and processes. Assist in developing and implementing policies related to ADA/504 compliance, including addressing standards and procedures for handling accommodation requests
  • Maintain department social media platforms for student engagement
  • Oversee Delta alpha Pi membership program along with other Department initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Fair Housing Act
  • Experience working in disability services with a focus on accommodations, preferably in a higher education environment
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic assessments including medical, psychological, and psychoeducational documentation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good computer skills and fluency in Microsoft Office and relevant software for maintaining student records and documentation
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and accessible instructional materials
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Sensitivity to the unique and confidential needs of students with disabilities

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
    • Preferably in: Psychology, Sociology, Child development, Education or other related fields
  • Master’s degree is preferred
