Position Overview
The PACT Mentor of the Professional Advising and Coaching Team (PACT) plays a vital role in supporting University Advisement initiatives aligned with the University's Strategic Plan. This role reinforces the advising mission and commitment to offer structured advising, actionable mentorship, proactive intervention, and a demonstrated standard of care to all Mercy students. This position combines academic advising, career exploration, and holistic student support to ensure every student feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed and graduate on time.

Key Responsibilities

Student Advising & Mentorship

  • Provide comprehensive academic advisement to an assigned caseload of approximately 200 students
  • Guide students in course selection, academic planning, and degree progression
  • Monitor student progress and intervene proactively to address academic challenges
  • Advocate for student success by connecting students with appropriate campus resources and support services

Career Development & Planning

  • Offer career exploration resources and guidance to help students identify meaningful career paths that align with their academic pursuits
  • Support students in developing timely, actionable career plans that complement their educational journey
    Collaboration & Partnerships
  • Collaborate with various university departments to identify and provide comprehensive resources for students
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across campus to enhance student support networks
  • Participate in university-wide initiatives that promote student retention and success

Additional Duties

  • Contribute to program development and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support student success

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and advocacy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build rapport with diverse student populations
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and student-centered support
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with student information systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in academic advising, mentoring, student affairs, or related field
  • Experience working with first-generation college students, underrepresented populations, or non-traditional students
  • Bilingual
  • Familiarity with Higher Education technology platforms (ex: Banner, DegreeWorks, Slate)
  • Familiarity with retention strategies and student success initiatives
