Position Description:
The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education at Mercy University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the 2025–2026 academic year. This full-time, non-tenure-track appointment also includes serving as Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the School of Education.
We are seeking a collaborative, student-centered educator who brings both teaching expertise and leadership ability. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality instruction while supporting the organization, communication, and continuous improvement of the undergraduate teacher preparation programs. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teaching:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood and/or childhood education, including instructional methods, foundations, and curriculum design
- Advise and mentor students across stages of the teacher preparation process
- Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and departmental initiatives
- Maintain a commitment to culturally responsive, inclusive, and evidence-based instruction
Undergraduate Program Coordination:
- Serve as the point person for the undergraduate programs in the School of Education
- Work closely with faculty, advisors, and staff to support undergraduate course scheduling, student progression, and certification requirements
- Support undergraduate recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts
- Communicate with key stakeholders across the university to advocate for program needs
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Familiarity with teacher certification standards and state education requirements, particularly in New York
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in higher education and/or coordinating teacher preparation programs
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience in P–6 settings
- Knowledge of accreditation processes (e.g., CAEP) and assessment practices
- Familiarity with special education as well as early childhood/childhood education
